About the event
Learn the basics of letterpress printing in this half-day hands-on workshop! Join local printmaker Jacquie Sullivan for an afternoon of inky exploration in the Uxbridge Historical Centre Print Shop. Practice setting vintage metal & wood type by hand, learn how to ink up the text with a brayer, then use a table-top proof press to print a small letterpress poster. At the end of the day you’ll take home new knowledge about the tools, terminology & history of letterpress printing, as well as several hand-printed copies of our collaborative print.
This workshop follows a morning demonstration of newspaper printing technology from 19th and 20th century led by the Lead Printer at Massey College in Toronto. Initial charge covers instructional and programming fee, please note there will be a $15 materials fee charge on the day of the event, to be paid to the instructor.
